Mark Walsh introduces this ​Embodied Yoga Principles workshop

Embodied Yoga Principles workshop with EYP Founder Mark Walsh looking at different postures.

Yoga for your whole life. Embodied Yoga Principles develops awareness, acceptance and an intentional approach to life which we can follow through into taking action in our life. The workshop will include some regular yoga postures (which you may be familiar with if you practice yoga) and specific Embodied Yoga Principles postures. We can learn to practice postures to develop specific qualities that we need on a daily basis.

Embodied Yoga Principles emphasises psychological self-awareness and transfer of skills to everyday life. So, for example when we create a posture we can focus on creating specific ways of being in our body so our yoga practice becomes more beneficial for all of our life rather than just a rest from life, or a form of exercise. It is a powerful transformative method of practicing Yoga. There are a variety of 24+ postures to explore all sorts of qualities and aspects of life:

  • Saying YES and NO
  • Giving and receiving
  • Creating boundaries
  • Openess
  • Containment
  • Standing up for things you believe in
  • Entering into life private and public - postures with a more personal, inner, private quality, or more outward, public
  • Taking space / being seen resting
  • Surrendering
  • Supporting (yourself and others)
  • And many more

EYP is about improving personal freedom, the relationships that matter in our lives, and effectiveness in making the world a better place. Embodied yoga can be serious and emotionally intense as it’s a powerful tool for looking at your personal patterns and changing your life for the better. It can also be playful (more than much yoga), so its also very connecting and lots of fun.

You can expect to be led through a range of postures including elements of self enquiry (reflecting on how you are in your life) and some social sharing (sharing your experience with other people verbally) we will practice postures individually, and also in pairs or small groups. The element of sharing is an important aspect of Embodied Yoga as it allows the insights you experience to be known, communicated and shared, (which can also help others as well), it can also help in setting and declaration of actions you may wish to take in your life.

Please note: the practices can be powerful, and may not be suitable if you are feeling very emotionally unbalanced, or experiencing difficult psychological difficulties, are in deep therapy, or have recent trauma, or bereavement.

About Mark Walsh:

Mark has been a practitioner of movements arts for twenty years, including several years as a full-time aikido student. His main yoga influences are Scaravelli, Yin and Buddhist inspired teachers. He has an honours degree in psychology. He founded and runs several organisations which bring embodiment into business, to aid workers and peace activists in war zones, and trains facilitators in around twenty countries annually. He has worked with everyone from the House of Lords, to Unilever, to the Sierra Leonian Army to Occupy; and yoga teachers of all major styles.
