Organic and emotional/psychological problems can respond to the all round osteopathic approach, which treats the person as a whole, composed of totally interdependent parts. When one part of the body is out of balance every other part is affected and adapts.
Osteopathy is ‘hands on’. The body is assessed visually, then by a gentle range of movements. Osteopathic treatment involves rhythmical movements and quite often ‘adjustments’ of the joints.
Osetopathic adjustments are specific corrections made to joints. These improve function and stimulate normal action of the surrounding tissues. The procedure is not painful.
At our Holywood Health clinic we use Osteopathy as an essential part of our holistic approach to healing. In addition, we use Cranial Osteopathy - a way of diagnosing and treating stress patterns within the actual bones and sutures of the head. The head should move ever so slightly in time with the sacrum, which gives rise to the term ‘cranio-sacral therapy’. This mechanism can affect mood, headache, concentration, tension, learning ability, coordination etc.
Acupuncture includes a detailed assessment of the energy flows within the body, and how they may be affected from within and out. Fine needles are commonly used to promote a smooth energy flow.
Acupuncture points are very specific, and have particular functions. They can be treated using traditional needles, or heat, massage or electrical stimulation.
Ralph McCutcheon has been practising acupuncture since 1973, using traditional Five Element and Eight Principle techniques, and still feels amazed by the results that can be achieved from inserting a few little needles in the right places!
Medical hypnosis is designed to increase your feeling of self control and self awareness.
Hypnosis can be described as a ‘change of state’ and we can use the ability of the mind to go into other levels of awareness to good effect. We run on programmes which have been implanted in our subconscious by our experiences in life, and these programmes condition and dictate our responses to situations. Those programmes can be changed or replaced when in an altered (hypnotic) state.
Hypnosis is a very versatile tool, and can be applied to almost any situation. Hypnosis can be incredibly helpful in resolving personal issues and unwanted behavioural responses. It is well known for helping people release addictions such as smoking, and can also be very helpful with eating disorders.
