We welcome Orla Wallace, experienced yoga teacher and long time friend of Maitri Studio to continue our Deepening Your Practice series of workshops in collaboration with the Yoga Fellowship of Northern Ireland. For more about the complete series, read here.
We are so much more than muscle and bone, and our Yoga practice can be so much more than asana and movement.
The Chakra system comes out of the tantra tradition. Tantra translates as ‘expansion device’.
If we were to consider the Chakra system as a mind body map, and each Chakra a lens directed inwards, allowing us to see more clearly how we can explore connections between the physiological, mental, spiritual and more. The chakras invite us to explore these connections using sound, colour, image and movement. This expands and brings our inner world to life. Then, from this new perspective as we develop a deeper connection to ourselves we can integrate our inner and outer world.
In this creative workshop we will learn to tune into the subtler sensations as we explore the body through colour, sound, and movement learning to expand sensation and lean into our sense of aliveness in a playful way.
Purchase a Deepening Practice Series pass via our booking page - each workshop is £40 or £30 for Yoga Fellowship members (see here for details of this collaboration and how to join the Fellowship). Remember to register onto Orla's workshop via the calendar or once you've logged into the student portal on booking.
Orla is an extremely experienced teacher who has trained with various teachers. She started teaching in Prague in 2006 after completing her Flow Yoga teacher training with Monica Angelucci (founder of Prague Yoga).
"That same summer I met Vanda Scaravelli-inspired teacher Paddy McGrath (dancing spine yoga). Paddy’s playful approach to yoga made a deep impression on me. I continue to study with Paddy and she has led to me some of her teachers, more recently Angela Farmer.
I’ve also studied traditional forms of Yoga with Acharya and Acharye Venkatesh in Mysore India, and Chandra Om in USA, who impressed upon me the importance of ethics in the tradition and how yoga can be a simple practice done with full awareness. I owe my interest in the chakras to my studies with Anodea Judith who has woven Western psychology and this Eastern system together,as well as studying with Angela Farmer. I often use the chakra system to help navigate through the relationship between the physical emotional and mental body."
